Innovations in Cloud, Edge, and Fog Computing for "Smart"+"Sustainable"+"Scalabe"+"Reliable"+"Secure" Industries/Cities/Countries

The realms of cloud, edge, and fog computing are currently witnessing a surge in popularity, profoundly impacting the landscape of smart Industries/Cities/Countries. Traditional servers, faced with the challenge of managing independent, dissimilar, and massive data in the Industries/Cities/Countries, fall short of handling these data efficiently. This workshop aims to address the existing challenges and explore new avenues in the implementation of cloud, edge, and fog computing in smart Industries/Cities/Countries. Additionally, the workshop will delve into the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for efficient data management and analysis, as well as tackle issues related to data transmission, communication networks, and data privacy and security.

In today's era, the concept of a smart city serves as a beacon of hope in addressing urban challenges and complexities through digital transformation strategies. This necessitates active involvement from all stakeholders, ranging from private and public sectors to city residents, alongside municipal bodies. Central to this transformation is the effective management of data, often referred to as the green oil of smart cities. Leveraging information and communications technology (ICT) and information technology (IT) becomes imperative in this regard. Sustainable technology plays a pivotal role in designing and managing Internet of Things (IoT) solutions within the ICT and IT frameworks of smart cities. It encompasses various aspects such as data management, resource optimization, network communication, cybersecurity, and software service development. Based on our related works available at the top of this page, the workshop delves into a comprehensive review of ICT architectures tailored for smart cities, encompassing centralized, decentralized-to-centralized, distributed-to-centralized, and hybrid models. Moreover, it introduces an innovative big data-driven architecture rooted in edge-to-cloud orchestration, facilitating efficient organization and management of city data. This architecture, adaptable across different multilayer ICT frameworks, addresses the challenges posed by big data, ensuring the smart, sustainable, scalable, and reliable development of cities. Furthermore, sustainable technology emphasizes eco-friendly solutions, aligning with principles of environmental consciousness and reshaping urban infrastructure and planning. By merging ICT/IoT with big data, AI, machine learning, and diverse technologies, smart cities pave the way for global sustainable practices, fostering a harmonious coexistence between technology and the environment. In summary, the proposed workshop not only addresses pressing technical issues but also underscores the urgency and relevance of its topics in the context of today's rapidly evolving urban landscape.

Rationale:

The evolution of edge and fog computing has proven instrumental in facilitating time-critical data management in industrial systems, while cloud computing efficiently handles non-time-critical data in industrial applications. The synergy of AI and ML further enhances the capabilities of these technologies for industrial decision-making. However, challenges persist in data communication, transmission, and security, especially in the context of heterogeneous devices and the need for data privacy in smart Industries/Cities/Countries.

Objective:

The primary objective of this workshop is to foster collaboration and innovation to address the existing research gaps and challenges in utilizing cloud, edge, and fog computing in smart Industries/Cities/Countries. By bringing together researchers from diverse geographical locations, we aim to create a platform for the exchange of ideas, schemes, frameworks, algorithms, and protocols to propel the smart Industries/Cities/Countries landscape forward. In addition to this, we look forward to new proposals for the large-scale management of data, software/service, and cybersecurity in Industries/Cities/Countries.
